Remote Online Support Setup

Complete the steps on this page and then contact and provide us with your:

  • Computer's network IP address

  • Remote Access username and password

  Prerequisites

Must be connected to the internet with broadband (Cable or DSL)

Windows 95, 98, ME, NT

  • Microsoft NetMeeting: Download it free and install it if you don't already have it.

Windows XP and 2000

  • Microsoft NetMeeting: To install, go to Start -> Run, type "conf" without quotes.

Unix and Linux

  • Telnet account with root privileges.

  Instructions

Windows 95, 98, ME, XP, NT, 2000, 2003

  1. Start NetMeeting

  2. From the menu at the top click Tools then Remote Desktop Sharing.
    If this is your first time running NetMeeting and you're running 95, 98, ME, or NT

    • Click Wizard and follow the instructions on your screen. Provide a secure password that you will give to us. Note your password. Go to Step 3.

    Otherwise if you're running 95, 98, ME, or NT

    • The Remote Desktop Sharing Settings dialog box opens. Change the password to "letmein" and Enable Remote Desktop Sharing. Note your password. Go to Step 3.

    If your running XP, 2000 or 2003

    • The Remote Desktop Sharing Settings dialog box opens. Enable Remote Desktop Sharing.
  3. We need to know your network IP address. You can find the IP address from NetMeeting at Help -> About NetMeeting. Note your IP address.

  4. Close NetMeeting and disable any firewalls!
  5. Right-click the NetMeeting icon that appears in the status area (bottom right of screen) and then click Activate Remote Desktop Sharing
  6. Contact Us for Remote Online Support.
  7. When we are finished, Disable Remote Desktop Sharing by starting NetMeeting and selecting Tools -> Remote Desktop Sharing -> Disable.

Unix and Linux

  1. Setup an account with telnet access and root privileges

  2. Note your account username, password and IP address
  3. Open port 23 on your firewall
  4. Contact us for online support.
  5. When we are finished, disable the account and perhaps block port 23.

 

Do not use your computer while we are connected!
